ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Ashlee, and I am a student artist and animator from Los Angeles!
ARTIST STATEMENT
With animation and complex visual compositions, my work deconstructs the absurdity of late-stage capitalism and its contradictions. First, my process always begins with heavily researching a theme, concept, or idea. This includes reading books and papers, looking at historical context and interpretations, and examining visual aspects of subject. Then in a draft, I start to bring these things together, attempting to reveal a challenging and complex visual story. In my work, I examine consumerism, imperialism, class relations, violence, labor, patriarchy, family, postmodernism, and interconnectedness in the 21st century and what these concepts mean for future generations. I do this through visual storytelling. My goal is to urge viewers to interrogate and think critically about a subject matter, and understand that no process, idea, or belief is solely unambiguous.
